This Week’s Articles: Janice Wray & The RIMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble

All-Star band

Jesse-Ray Leich, a rising senior at North Kingstown High School and the No. 1 jazz drummer in the state, grins as he plays a tune with the R.I. Music Educators Association’s Senior All-State Jazz Ensemble. The group practiced at Updike Park in Wickford on Thursday in preparation for their performance at the Newport Jazz Festival on Saturday.

Hello! Interested in my latest articles for the paper? You may be interested to know that next week is my last full week interning at Independent newspapers. So sad to go! I’ve developed a routine here, seeing the same faces every day and writing, two, three stories in a day. There will be two more updates about my writing for the newspapers – but y’all should still check out the other awesome writers and their articles, too. There is a new Web site for Independent newspapers that is chock full of great content!

This week, I wrote about Janice Wray, a friend of mine in East Greenwich who is now getting used to life in a wheelchair. She says she’s not an inspiration, but I think she always was. I also wrote about the All-State Jazz Ensemble, which I saw perform last week at Updike Park in Wickford. Great experience!

P.S. This morning I received some awful news about a professor of mine at Wheaton College. I’d like to do him the justice of a full commemorative post later in the week, so look out for that. R.I.P. Rick Britto.
